JUNE 2024

Nolan Associates were once again proud to sponsor the Brendas. Our association with the event is over 10 years now and we look forward to this event more than most. This years event raised £77,487.82. Everyone should be very proud of that.

This year, was a look back over 21 years of the Brendas and it was great to share the table with some of our closest friends and business associates.

Tim Blairs , John Nolan and Ciaran Nolan had all taken part in filming over the years including, John doing Brendas does Bakeoff, Ciaran singing ln Lady in Red and Tim competing in Car Pool Karaoke and judging Brendas Got Talent.

As those who were there, know, I proposed to my girlfriend Julie Craig on stage at the event. Big thank you to Jilly for facilitating it, to Michelle Elleman and Viv for keeping it a secret.

History of the BRENDAs

The BRENDAs (Birmingham Real Estate Novel Development Awards) became a byproduct of the Property for Kids fundraising event ‘A Night with the Stars’ in 2003.

The biennial ball was held at the Metropole Hotel, with over 500 people attending – the event was billed far more prestigious than the Oscars! Property professionals expounding their theories of life and the marketplace in front of their contemporaries was found to be a successful formula.

Two years later, it was decided at a PFK Committee meeting that the BRENDAs could be a success in its own right as a lunchtime fundraiser and networking event to keep the PFK profile riding high in the time between our ‘biennial’ main event.

The BRENDA was created by Chris Lea and Chris Read over 4 pints of Bathams Ale in The Crown in Stourbridge, a hotbed of creativity in those days.

The first Awards were crafted from the finest plastic West German-manufactured Gnome, sprayed gold and mounted on an English Oak plinth. Nowadays, the same Gnome is ‘no-nailed’ onto a scrap of MDF board and sprayed gold. Keeps the cost down!

Since its launch in 2006, the BRENDAs is the most well-supported and most ‘looked forward to’ event in the City of Birmingham and raises significant funds on the day for distribution to our charities.
