ISG Contractors have handed over the new £9m leisure centre in Northfield, Birmingham
The new leisure centre, which has been successfully delivered for Serco on behalf of Birmingham City Council, opened its doors to the public well ahead of schedule. Nolan Associates were the civil and structural engineers for the project.
The building features a 25m, six-lane pool with a 100-capacity poolside seating area, a learner pool, 120-station gym, dance studio and four-court sports hall, along with a café, terrace and community room facility. The project, which was part-funded by Sport England, is part of a city-wide investment to provide Birmingham residents with high-tech, contemporary leisure and exercise facilities. The centre is part of the Birmingham Sports and Leisure Facilities Framework.
Stechford, and a further three leisure centres – Erdington, which successfully completed in September 2017, Northfield, and Icknield Port Loop – have been designed to minimise life cycle costs and support the council’s sustainability agenda.
